How to choose a quality acoustic slat panel and what traps to avoid

Five simple checks before you buy slat panels for a wall, ceiling or furniture.

1. Felt density

The acoustic effect comes from the felt on the back. For real absorption look for PET felt of 1200–1300 g/m². Below 1000 g/m² the panel looks good but reduces echo very little. Ask for the value in writing.

2. Slat and backing thickness

Thin slats and backing bend, crack when cut and look cheap. Compare the declared thicknesses, not just the photos.

3. Formaldehyde emissions

Panels go into bedrooms and children’s rooms. Ask about emissions and request the manufacturer’s documents. LDA is made in Europe with zero formaldehyde emissions.

4. Surface treatment

An antistatic treatment reduces dust and a scratch-resistant one keeps the look. The surface should wipe clean with a cloth.

5. Colour consistency between batches

If you reorder months later, the shade must be the same. LDA colours have stayed consistent for years.

Traps to avoid

Prices far below market with no technical data, generic photos, no felt density stated, and no importer or local contact for reorders. Choose a product where you can get the same information in writing.

Where slat panels fit

Living room slat walls behind the TV, bedroom slat walls as headboards, hallway slat walls to widen or raise the space, plus offices, restaurants and room dividers.
